I had been wondering how all the UK transcribers are doing in the heat. Everyone cool?

Scotland is still cool and overcast with sunny intervals. Should warm up into the middle 20s next week then back to high teens.

Actually I just got rained on at the allotment doing some watering  It was only a light shower. At the moment it's still a pleasant 16C (it is only 8am), predicted max for today 29C. Monday - 32C. Tuesday 36C!! Then Wed back to a more normal 19C.

I'm just to the north of the area covered by the red warning for Monday and Tuesday. It looks like high temperature records will be broken for England with a predicted 40C in some places.

26C is starting to get a bit warm for me - that's why I could never be tempted to move to Australia!

Last night the temperature in parts of the UK didn't drop below 25C breaking the record for overnight minimum (previously 23.9C). It wasn't quite that bad here, it was 22C at about 6am before it started going up again. I think that's higher than the average max temp for July in these parts!

The predicted max for some areas for today is 42C. For here 36C or 34C (depending which weather forecast you look at), but it does look like it will start to cool mid afternoon rather than keep getting hotter until early evening like it did yesterday. It reached 32C at about 6pm here.

It's 38 where I am in Surrey, south of London.
Heathrow has recorded 40+, unofficially.
Cooler weather (possibly with rain!) is on the way, they say.

Washington Post headline:
After 363 years tracking summer heat, U.K. could see an all-time high

From the New York Times:
On this day in 1967, air-conditioned subway cars debuted in New York. “Passengers forgot the usual stony stares to smile at one another in disbelief,”

The UK temperatures yesterday didn't quite make the predicted 42C but the max was 40.3C which did break the previous record. It got up to 34C where I am which is definitely too hot for me. Cooler now!
