Sorry Kevin, no mention of worse flooding over burnt areas.
I general there was a lot of flooding in those areas but that often happens in those areas.

We were very lucky as the heavy rain seemed to skirt around the back of the hills behind me.

Climate change in the logs. Haida took a trip from Cordova to Valdez. On her return, she stopped off the Columbia Glacier. Her position seemed quite a long way off from the glacier, so I wondered if, indeed, the glacier had retreated so far between 1935 and the time of this satellite photo in Google Earth. The Wikipedia article about the glacier states that it has retreated 9.9 statute miles since 1982. The circle in the image has a diameter of 10 nautical miles. So, they were probably just off the face of the glacier in 1935!

The good old Beeb used to do April Fool jokes in the good old days. I don't know if you can still locate it but one of the best was the 'Spaghetti Harvest' with commentary by Richard Dimbleby who used to do all the big public events. The number of people who believed that Spaghetti grew on vines or bushes.

Wikipedia's "Do you know" section (main page, lower left) always has some entries that are technically true, but creatively worded.
For example:

"Do you know that Mr Bean attempted to kill the Queen with a tobacco-loaded gun?"

Not quite sure where to put this one since we don't seem to do much on WW2 ships.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-56608713

This concerns the wreck of USS Johnston, a WW2 destroyer

Thanks for posting!

There is Kevin's project: https://www.zooniverse.org/projects/krw ... eather-ww2

More concerning is a link from the Johnston article: Mariana Trench: Deepest-ever sub dive finds plastic bag [2019]

Here's an animation showing how fast the retreat has been. https://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/world ... biaGlacier. Certainly the Haidi must have been fairly near the face back then.
