Muster Rolls of U.S.S. Shenandoah 1867-1870

On the weather page, please enter: date, locations, distances (nautical miles and tenths), courses, and all the weather data in the columns outlined in red in the spreadsheet.
It is not necessary to record State of the Sea.
However, ice mentioned in the weather grid should be transcribed using the magenta Sea column.

On the events page please enter: ice, location information, and sailing information.
Aurorae, volcanic, and seismic activity should be reported in the forum.
The names of US Navy and Coast Guard ships met should be noted. This gives the science team a chance to compare weather readings. You can include all ships mentioned in a single entry without a time or any additional data.
Other events are optional.

One person can do both weather and events (Stream 1), but the system also allows one person to do the weather page (Stream 1) and a second person to do the events page (Stream 3).
Unlike in OW3, where three transcriptions were required for each page, we are doing only one transcription per page.

Every transcriber needs to enter the date.
The date is used to organize the pages.

See Shenandoah: general for some general background and discussion.
See Shenandoah: examples for a quick introduction to transcribing or a refresher.

See Transcribing Guide to learn how to transcribe the data.

I would like to reserve January only, since the Shenandoah spent a couple of days in Singapore during this month :owl:

I will do the rest of the year - looks like I get to go to Japan again after being there on the Kearsarge!

Just gotten started, and I've encountered the first oddity - the first two pages have the exact same weather data!

Looks like someone copied the wrong weather page?

That's what I think too, but is it even possible to work out which page is the correct one?

You could try matching it up to the events page :?:

I looked at the pressures and Dry bulb. It looks like the page 43 fits best with page 44. I'll have a better look when I get all the data into a spreadsheet. Your guy on Kearsarge had a bad habit of putting the 12 Lat/Longs for the wrong day in the log.  Luckily there were some bearings I could use to sort out what was what.

What made you give up on Kearsarge? I'm not complaining, just curious...

I really like it when a ship gets finished, and I saw there's less left to do on the Shenandoah.
Also, I felt like I was just chopping away at the same old monolithic stuff on the Kearsarge.

I know the feeling, both about chopping away at Kearsarge, and getting a boat finished. :D :D
