Warmest New Year's Eve ever in Britain reaching 15.8C. It isn't quite as warm as that where I am but was 13C overnight last night and then weirdly a bit cooler during the day (around 12C)

I might concede and put a long sleeve t-shirt on to go out at midnight. The jacket will stay on its peg.
Thinking of what to do when the hibernation fat-and-ready hedgehogs are flaked out on the grass with heat stroke ;)

Went for a walk round a country park in Cheshire with brother. Sat on bench and had a picnic lunch. OK I was wearing a jacket but no sweater and this is New Year's Eve. Crazy :?

The records are from the Victoria University Cs weather station, the ones in red from my
home weather station. We are fairly close to the U Vic weather station, and our values are
usually very close to theirs. Our weather station started recording in May 2015.
U Vic period of record: 1993-01 - 2020-12.
Note: This weather station has frequent outages, so take these numbers as a guide.

Our highest temperature: 39.9.
The highest temperature was 37.6 set in 2009.
The normal annual maximum temperature is 31.7.
In 2011 the highest temperature was only 28.0.

Our mean temperature: 10.9.
In 1998 the highest mean temperature was only 12.2.
The normal annual mean temperature is 11.0.
The lowest mean temperature was 9.8 set in 2011.

Our lowest temperature: -9.2.
The lowest temperature was -11.2 set in 2008.
The normal annual minimum temperature is -5.4.
In 2015 the lowest temperature was only -1.3.

Our total precipitation: 1150.4 mm.
The wettest year was 2006 with 822.9 mm of precipitation.
The normal amount of precipitation is 646.2 mm.
The driest year was 2000 with 398.0 mm.
In November, we had 346.9 mm of precipitation, which is over
half the amount we would get in a normal year. It was almost
as much as U Vic recorded in the year 2000!

We had 169 days with precipitation.
The year with the most days of precipitation was 2007 with 202 days.
The normal number of days with precipitation is 165.
The year with the most days of precipitation was 1993 with 118 days.

Was gone for a week and received 7 cm rain in my gauge. Nearly filled my backyard pond; it gets runoff from an additional area. I rarely put water in it- especially as we have been in a drought. The gold fish were about to have to learn to walk. Now they are doing swimmingly.

We got a couple inches of snow overnight.

Woke up to find a white world outside. Not deep snow just a covering but clinging to every branch - lovely. I got back from my brother's yesterday and was planning an early morning supermarket shop. However, I arrived earlier than likely and decided to head to the shops before I went home (I knew I wouldn't go out again once I'd taken my coat off!). When I looked out of the window I felt very smug, no picking my way through trampled snow in the carpark nor clearing snow off the car. It should warm up tomorrow so nature will clear the car and paths for me before I need the car to go to church.

Well done - wonderful to miss the lumpy slush. I hate lumpy slush. I have a poor sense of balance so the lumps tend to win and my rear end tends to connect with the slush :D

Ironically, when I go to a friend's in icy weather, the easiest part of my route is usually a very steep hill.
The hill is almost always salted and there isn't a lot of traffic in bad weather, so I can walk in the street.
In fact, if I remember correctly, yesterday it was the only street that had been salted.

I just looked, and my street still hasn't been plowed - not that it really matters to me since I don't have a car ;)
