Well, I have lived in AK for 18 years. This will be the first
time that I can remember that we haven't had a white Christmas.
However, even though it is not white as I type, the forecast is calling
for 1-3 inches tomorrow! How I hope they are right this
time. Merry Christmas to everyone!
-
And Merry Christmas to you. I hope Santa brings you some snow. It is
disturbing to live that far north and have no snow for Christmas. Here,
in Victoria, it's the opposite, it's disturbing if we do have
snow. ;D
In the past 63 years, we've had snow on the ground for just seven days:
1964 12 25 5 cm
1971 12 25 8 cm
1990 12 25 4 cm
1996 12 25 19 cm
1998 12 25 2 cm
2008 12 25 35 cm
2017 12 25 7 cm
We
were visiting our daughter here in 2008, and I spent a lot of time
shoveling. She refused to go out if the ground was white.
::) She didn't even have a snow shovel, so I had to borrow one
from next door. When we moved here from Whitehorse we brought all our
shovels and scoops with us. ;)
Whitehorse, by the way, is 49 out of 49 for white Christmases.
-
Christmas Eve in Darlington, Co Durham, in northeast England, and
not very Christmassy weather. 6 degrees C, drizzle, clouds.
Tomorrow is forecast to be sunny though.
-
Not very Christmassy in the village of Vanga, Skane County, Sweden, either.
Cloudy, misty and drizzling, with a high of 6 and low of 2.
We have had a White Christmas once or twice, but I can't remember when - too long ago!
-
A very mild 11C in Surrey, south of London, for Christmas Eve.
Rain forecast ... we don't need it.
Cooler tomorrow with sun! :o :)
-
-1C this morning in Pittsburgh and overcast.
No snow although we had some last week.
-
Christmas morning will likely be white here in the Seattle area, but
only because of frost; no snow. The weather station at my house
recorded a low of 0.5 C last night which was cold enough to turn
everything white this morning. Humidity was 93%; so plenty of
moisture in the air.
-
A
white Christmas this year? You must be dreaming. The National Weather
Service is predicting a high in the low to mid-50s, with partly cloudy
skies and no precipitation on Wednesday. "It's pretty much a zero chance
of a white Christmas," said Bill Modzelewski, a meteorologist for the
National Weather Service in Pittsburgh. But while white Christmases
might be "just like the ones I used to know," according to Bing Crosby's
classic song, that's not really the case in Pittsburgh. From 1880 to
2018, only 14% of Christmases in Pittsburgh were classified as white,
said Mr. Modzelewski, meaning more than an inch of snow falling that
day. The last Christmas with that amount of snow was two years ago, with
1.4 inches. Before that, the last one was in 2002, with 1.8 inches.
The forecast says that it will be 6C and clear in about 40 minutes.
We'll see.
It is currently 4C and foggy/overcast with an air quality alert.
-
I classify a white Christmas as one with measurable snow on the
ground. Counting one as a day with snow falling will give you a smaller
number. Counting it that way gives Whitehorse 44 white Christmases out
of 63 for 70%. Counting white as having snow on the ground is 49/49 for
100%. They started measuring snow on the ground in 1955, and measuring
precipitation in 1942, hence the difference in the number of years for
falling snow vs snow on the ground.
-
Sunny and beautiful here today...perfect for the kids getting bikes for xmas ;)
A very merry Christmas to everyone! ;D

A smoggy little Christmas: Bad air expected to linger through Thursday
By Don Hopey
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
For
the past four days, the Pittsburgh region has had some of the worst air
quality in the nation, and that won't change much Wednesday, when a
smoggy, not white, Christmas is the forecast.
I noticed my eyes burning a bit last night and I was rather surprised since that almost never happens to me.
They are already burning this morning :'(
-
According to the weather button on my laptop, the record for today
is/was 57F in 2015. After eating our Christmas feast, one of our
crew checked their phone for current temp... 61F. I will admit the
phone (Dayton) and the laptop (Columbus) are located about 50 miles
apart, and Dayton does trend slightly warmer.

Before
they brought in the Clean Air Act (well, before it got fully into
swing) in East London you could taste fog. Nasty acid stuff.

We didn't have a white Christmas, but it is a white New Year's Eve.

Pittsburgh just had its wettest decade on record
By Anya Sostek
Pittsburgh
hasn't just felt super rainy -- Year-end and decade-end totals from the
National Weather Service prove it. The year 2019 ended with 52.46
inches of rain -- the third-wettest year on record since 1871. The year
before had the most rain ever -- 57.83 inches. And the second-wettest
year also came in the last 15 years -- 57.41 inches in 2004, when
Hurricane Ivan hit in September. "We do expect that this trend will
continue," said Josef Werne, a professor in the department of geology
and environmental science at the University of Pittsburgh. "It will get
warmer and wetter in Pittsburgh."
-
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (https://pge.post-gazette.com/.fullpdfs/2020/01/20200112.pdf)
Pittsburgh
hit 70 degrees, breaking the all-time record of 68 degrees on Jan. 11,
set in 1890, according to the National Weather Service in Moon.
It
also marks the first time the temperature has reached 70 or higher in
the month of January since 2005, meteorologist Jenna Lake said.
-
The
National Weather Service reported 5 inches of snowfall as of 8 p.m.
Friday -- the highest recorded daily snowfall for Feb. 7 since
record-keeping began.
However, that is far more the exception than the rule.
-
Would you like me to pop over and clear the snow off your sidewalk?
-
Haven't seen one snowflake all winter. We might still get
some....but it's looking unlikely :-[ The Japanese Quince is
covered in blossom so I kind of hope that nothing happens in the next
two weeks ;)
You could pop over and do my sidewalk Michael - it's got plenty of thriving moss on it ::)
-
Vinegar for the sidewalk. Works like a charm, although you might be
craving fish and chips every time you go outside... ::)

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
I live in Somerset UK, where we havent seen a snowflake all year,
but today I am working in Shrewsbury and we had almost an inch at
lunchtime today. Almost completely gone now, but at least I have seen
some.
I have been lucky that the storm which has hit the UK this
weekend hasnt caused me any problems. Some places have flooded for the
second time in 5 years. Sad.
-
The rain has washed almost all our snow away.
-
Sarah-upstairs reported 4 today - 4 what? - 4 snowflakes ::)
-
Lashing down with hail - enough to make us stop and gawp out of the window. :o
To be honest - still unseasonably warm. The hedgehogs are around most nights :-\
-
We had a bit of sunshine, which has been a rare phenomenon for quite
a while. And there are weather warnings for three of the next
four days - two for wind, and one for rain. But they're only
yellow so unlikely to cause many problems. Given how people have
been suffering with floods, I feel very lucky.
-
Today's weather has been more like April - bright sunshine followed
by dumberdash (sudden heavy rain). My forsythia has a few flowers out
and I had two robins on the feeder so I guess they are pairing. This is
FEB. ???
-
We've been cool but sunny. The blossoms, which were out close to the
harbour a few weeks ago and coming into bloom in our neighbourhood.
It's been almost perfectly clear, as you can see by this image of our
solar power generation yesterday. 26.9 kwh produced @ 19 cents per kwh.
-
Leipzig has had high temperatures from time to time as well, as much as 15 C last weekend. That is not normal!
-
Gosh - we're all cooking :o My Japanese quince is
covered in blossom, and all of the blackthorn is flowering which will be
bad for the sloe season since it's windy and blackthorn blossom doesn't
set well in wind :'(
I like 'dumberdash'! A great Scots word :D
-
Sorry Joan, dumberdash comes from my Cheshire childhood when I still
used quite a bit of dialect. Unfortunately we had lots of 'overspill'
settlement in our area after WW2 and an influx of out of area teachers
who didn't understand the dialect which was then discouraged. Result,
it's almost died out which is a shame. I probably belong to the last
generation to grow up with it and I only use a few words now where there
isn't a single conventional english equivalent.
-
I mowed the lawn yesterday for the first time this season. I
don't remember ever mowing the lawn in February before. We had
record rainfall here in January followed by a few recent sunny days in
the upper 50s and low 60s (Fahrenheit) which is making the grass grow
very fast. Normally it's still dormant this time of year.
-
Yesterday was abnormally cold (freezing or below), but month to date
and year to date it has been abnormally warm. It has also been
abnormally rainy. 2018 was the rainiest on record and 2019 was the third
rainiest.
Our temperatures tend to vary significantly over a
week. Today (Sat) is supposed to be a high of 7C and a low of -2C.
Wednesday is supposed to be a high of 13C and a low of -3C. Next
Saturday is supposed to be a high of -2C and a low of -8C. We'll see ::)
-
Very windy today. You can see how sheltered we are;
DD HH | Pres/ TT/ TD/DDD/FFF GGG RH PCP PRATE

Minimum: 4.4 4.4 deg C

Max Wind: 31 31 kmh
Our
maximum wind gust is 31 kmh. At Victoria Harbour the maximum gust is
86, and at Victoria Gonzales it is 87. These two stations are about 3
miles from our house.
-
Very windy over here in the Seattle area too.
Peak gust at my
house SE of Seattle was 34 KMH with accompanying sleet. Winds
tend to be diminished here by a ridge the other side of the
valley. I'm sure there were much higher winds elsewhere around
Seattle.
There was a sudden increase in pressure and temperature, along with heavy rain when that peak gust hit.
-
Lot of rain and wind yesterday, on and off. It's still muddy in a few spots.
More occasional rain this afternoon and the next couple days - I'm glad I'm already home due to Carnival!
(My
employer's parent corp. is located in the Rhineland, where Carnival is a
BIG thing, so they give everybody half a day off on this day so they
can get home without hassle.
As we are now officially employees of said corp., we get to benefit from this too!)
-
First snow of the winter here in Darlington - rather a surprise to
wake up this morning to a white world. It doesn't look as though
it's going to lie - the trees are already mainly green again, and the
streets getting clear. As it's supposed to be below freezing
tonight, I hope it does clear before night falls, as things could be
treachorous underfoot if it doesn't.
-
I didn't realize that you had Carnival in your part of Europe
hanibal :D What fun! It must mean that it's Shrove Tuesday
tomorrow - pancake day - yummy.
Favourite toppings anyone? Mine's smashed banana with syrup
I
so hope that your snow is fully melted before it gets cold enough to
re-freeze Helen - go careful if you have to go out tomorrow :-\
-
Rain, rain, rain, and then more rain here in southern UK.
Tomorrow, hail.
Relatively mild at 10C today, 8C tomorrow.
-
Rain and wind.
Yesterday saw 28 mm rain and a force 6 to 7wind, with gusts over 75 km/h.
Therefore many Carnival parades had to be cancelled, too dangerous with those high floats.
Luckily
the local children's parade wasn't cancelled Saturday, though
everything above 3 metres high had to be removed from floats for safety.
-
3C max up here in Scotland. Fields awash and hail showers. Snow on
the hills and saw giritter with plough on front this afternoon. Aren't I
glad I'm retired so going out is mainly voluntary. More hail and rain
forecast with possibility of overnight frost for the next few
nights. That is scary as black ice is one of my nightmares.
-
Black ice is one of mine, too!

Black Ice.
Wretched
stuff has caught me out a few times. When an Australian friend
ventured to the UK for the first time just before a nasty snow-ridden
Christmas I left a note of all the rotten things that can catch you out.
She really didn't believe me about black ice...until it turned
up. :(
Very windy here in Oxon, but dry at the moment. If you're getting that lot, Caro, we'll probably get it too :'(
Here's the surface pressure chart at lunchtime today - and it's not getting much better for midnight ::)

Yesterday afternoon a relatively warm 11oC, this morning I woke up to the sight of 4 cm of snow. ::)
It won't last, a temperature of 6o has been forecast.
-
I woke up to....cherry blossom :'( :'( :'(
Wearing
cherry blossom around your hat for May Morning (1st May) in England is
traditional, and very popular in Oxford. By that time, weather permitting, we'll have cherries instead of blossom. :o Everything is 2 months ahead of where it should be.
And...another large flight of geese heading North yesterday evening :-[
Some snow is predicted for the North - have you had any more of the white stuff please Helen?
-
We've had some white hill tops but the odd few flakes down at just
above sea level haven't lasted. This morning the low hills are green and
I haven't been out far enough to see the higher ones.
-
Thanks for asking, Joan. No, no more snow, and it all
disappeared before the sun went down and took the temperatures with it.
Today
we have sun! It was a bit frosty this morning, but really rather
lovely, with a blue sky and white fluffy clouds. Michael's solar
panels would be doing well ....
-
We have 10% chance of rain falling outside this morning. It's a
nice mix of drizzle and mist that will be pleasant for the walk down to
the bus stop later today.
-
I just checked the rain gauge and that 10% chance of rain has added up to 2.54 mm since Midnight.
-
Well for the fifth time the tabloids are predicting heavy winter
storms. I bet it will be horribly wintry at the top of Ben Nevis
::)
And then it's getting warmer and wetter again. :(
It's difficult to know what to do - wear wellingtons/flippers/wellingtons/flippers ? ? ?

We had a bit of snow this morning, but it melted immediately.
Forecast currently says there will be a little more in the coming weeks.

Maximum: 10.5 10.5 deg C
Minimum: 3.5 3.5 deg C
Precip: 0.0 0.5 mm
Max Wind: 9 9 kmh
And,
so far today, 25.38 kwh of electricity from our solar panels. And plum
and cherry blossoms, and daffodils and trees coming into leaf and ...
...
Well, you get the idea. ;D
-
I just queried a web site that responded that in a straight line I'm
89 miles SE of Michael here in Kent, Washington. There was an
even balmier high of 13.9 and low of 7.0 at my house today.
Camellias
are starting to bloom, although the one in my backyard always seems to
bloom several weeks after the rest of the neighborhood.
By the
way, I just learned that Kent was renamed from Titusville after Kent in
England because that was a major hop growing region and back then hops
were a major crop here in this Kent. Today the crops are mostly
gone, replaced by warehouses and manufacturing plants (and major traffic
problems :( )
-
We have a dusting of snow this morning.

If
someone could invent wellies with flippers attached, and perhaps an
open toed option for the warmer weather, they could really clean
up! :D :D :D
-
It is what I call 'snowflaking' here.
You can count the flakes as they drift past the window ;)
-
Ah - we had real snow this morning.
6.40 a.m. open door to wet cat in heavy drizzle
6.42 feed wet cat and refuse to be sat on as cat-foot drier
6.54 leave house to find - fat snow flakes falling into puddles of rain
9.30-ish sun comes out for the rest of the day
Mind you - we're clearly going to have a really cold night...brrrrrr..... :-\
-
We're back to grey skies, and a bit of rain - pretty gloomy but
nothing worse than that. Forecast for tomorrow is strong winds and
hail showers - sounds like a good day to stay indoors with OW.

Yeh!! You've just improved the weekend immeasurably Helen :D

Cold and rainy today but none of yesterday's snow and sleet, I'm glad to say.
Tomorrow, sunshine and hail showers. Roll on spring. :)

Here's how the February weather at my house in Victoria was:
The highest temperature occurred on February 11 with 11.9 degrees.
The lowest temperature occurred on February 17 with -2.4 degrees.
The average temperature for the month was 5.3, the normal is 6.2.
There were 17 days with precipitation, the normal is 15.
The most precipitation occurred on February 01 with 41.9 mm.
*** This February had 137.9 mm of precipitation, beating the old record of 115.5 mm.
The highest wind speed occurred on February 23 with 31 kmh.
The windiest day was February 23.

Victoria Spring.
We generated 30.62 kwh of electricity today. Nearly 100 of the possible, but a couple of clouds passed overhead briefly.
-
That looks a beautiful spring day - I love the deep blue sky.
We've had some blue skies here, but rather paler, and with more cloud
cover. And not much in the way of blossom out yet either.
-
Weather in Leipzig seems to be slowly improving, still lot of clouds and rain.
I've really noticed the days getting longer due to biking home from work!

There was a tiny bit of snow on the ground here and there Sunday morning.
Last week's predictions and actual weather are here (https://forum.oldweather.org/index.php?topic=5333.msg168006#msg168006).
Rather alarmingly, all temperatures were either as warm or warmer than predicted.
-
I don't have the stats to back it up, but it certainly feels milder
than I'd expect at this time of year. Which is great on one level,
but of course worrying as well.
-
The last week was a bit cooler than normal...

The forecast here is a slight chance of snow tonight and tomorrow
with a low of 0.6 tonight. Snow in mid-March is unusual here.

We had a lovely day here today - sun all day :D
-
Crocuses are out.
Daffodils and forsythia are starting.
-
My forsythia is in full bloom and one of my flowering currant bushes
is showing colour. The cotoneaster buds are swelling, so are the flower
buds on the rhododendrons. Two pigeons were cooing and twining necks
and the rooks have got several nests built. In fact spring has sprung
(it will probably snow next month! Don't laugh, I was bridesmaid for a
friend in April and we were all wearing thermals under our dresses then
picking our way through the snow in our matching sandals, and March that
year was lovely too.)

-
Rainy and windy here. That has been hard on the trees that are flowering, but they still perfume the air.
-
Sunny here! :) Millions of flower and blossoms. :) :) :)
-
Sat out in the garden in my fleece and had a 'picnic style' lunch. I
believe that fresh air and sunlight is good for me and I'm sticking to
my story. The birds weren't so happy - only the robin had the nerve to
go to the feeder but it is my garden afterall. Later on I went for my
walk, people's gardens are showing spring flowers and leaves all over
the place - very encouraging.
-
It was stormy all night with lots of rain and wind, but the sun just appeared a few minutes ago.
My
camellia bush is loaded with the most flowers ever. A warmer
summer than usual followed by a wetter winter than usual must have
helped it.
The government here is encouraging people to get out
walking for both the physical and mental benefit. I'll probably go
out walking this afternoon.
-
Everything here! Strong wind (coming straight from Siberia I think), sunshine, rain, hail and sleet in short bursts.
It was the first day of British Summer Time of course. :)
-
24oC here at 4:30pm :o
Sunny and windy.
The
magnolias (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnolia) are blooming.
Lovely! Although they are a bit the worse for the wind and rain, they
smell wonderful.
-
We continue to be cooler than normal, but sunny! We generated 161 kwh of solar power.

Now it's 'fruit' trees with lovely white and sometimes pink flowers.
The daffodils are still doing well and the hyacinths are now flowering. The tulips are just starting.
-
Here's my Juneberry bush, now nearly a tree. It's my view from my
computer. It's flowering a month early. The blossom lasts about a week.
My Japanese neighbour came to photograph it...so sweet.
The leaves
are just coming out and are a light bronze at this point, they will be
green in about 2 weeks' time. If it's frosty at the end of summer it
does that whole amazing New England red-leaves thing. :D It's slow
growing - it's been there about 20 years and started at about 3ft high.
I guess it's about 11 feet to the very top now. So glad that I bought
it. :D

Lovely!
-
Plants in my garden are blooming at about their normal times this
year. Most haven't bloomed yet, but the ones that have seem to
have more flowers than usual.
-
Lots of plants in our garden are blooming too - especially the cherry trees!
But the grass really could use some rain. There hasn't been any in over a week, IIRC
-
Snow! :o
Just a few little flakes drifting down, but it is snow.
-
Still "snowflaking" ;D

We're 24C here or 89.6F... a terrible day to be locked at home :-\
At
least we have a couple deckchair on the balcony, so it's still pretty
enjoyable... hope people won't rush around during Easter festivities,
with these temperatures it will be difficult to keep everyone inside!
Edit:
... and in fact, just a couple minutes ago, we received the phone call
from civil protection agency, telling people that controls and checks
will be enforced starting from this evening ;D
-
We got up to 17.8C yesterday, the warmest day so far this year. The
day before it got up to 15, which is now the second warmest of this
year.
-
This year Floods, Fire and Pestilence.
So nothing special to report from Downunder.
-
We had a hot day in Kidlington. Sunscreen glop to the ready, hats on etc. :D
-
It's supposed to go down to -1C overnight.
At 0015 it is 2C with a mostly clear sky...
-
11-25C today.
Not bad for this time of year.
22c sea temp off Newcastle. Spot on mean temp.
-
We have light rain. First time for quite a while, but it's making all the gardens happy.
-
Stuart - 22C for the water temp - lovely! :D
Michael - we'll get rain over the weekend apparently, we could do with it now :-[
-
14.7 mm as of 2:00 PM Pacific Daylight Time, 2100 UTC, and it
continues to come down at a nice gentle rate. It's our first rain since
April 4th, other than a trace on the 18th. :) :) :)

Log keeper weather.
Just for fun, I pulled out the weather
for noon on this day from those ships for which I have weather data.
Just a note for some of our new transcribers: depending on the ship and
the year, the Amt column had the Amount of cloud or the amount of clear
sky, so 10 could be either overcast or clear. ::)
Also,
some logkeepers used to enter dittos in the columns. Because double
quotes cause me problems, they have been converted here to an
exclamation mark. In this case it would refer to the value at 1100.
You can also see that most ships were still in port in late April.

We seem to be having a second wave of daffodils, and the iris are just starting.
-
Our daffodils are mostly finished. We had tulips, but the deer are
eating them almost as fast as they appear. The chestnut trees are coming
into bloom.
-
I've got lots of blossom on the 2 apple trees (especially great as
they had hardly any last year) and the hawthorn, which isn't proving a
good indication of when to take off your winter clothes as it's gone
cold and rainy. ;)

3 May the high was 24C
5 May the high was 12C
-
Missed it yesterday but
May the 4th be with you. ::)
-
;D ;D ;D
-
Currently 8C at 4pm, but we have a frost advisory until tomorrow morning.
-
We're 16C at 3:00 PM, with lots of sun and wind.
-
We were 41C (tied the record) and sunny today.
-
Wow! A little too hot for me!
-
We've gone from a frost advisory to a freeze warning...
-
At the moment the forecast for the weekend here has a max of 20C on
Saturday and then max of 10C on Sunday. I know the weather in the West
of Britain can be changeable but really!
-
Know what you mean. Yesterday, blazing sun and I retreated to the
shade at lunchtime. Today, long sleeves, cloudy possible touch of frost
overnight!!
-
Still beautiful sun here .... making the most of it while it lasts.
-
Sunny here too. The high is supposed to be 16C.
Tomorrow is supposed to be rainy with a high of 9C, and Saturday is supposed to have a high of 4.
-
:o
-
We reached 25.1C today which is a record if only by 0.2 degrees C. :) :) :)
-
We reached 11C today. It is now 1C and it is supposed to get down to -2C in the early morning.
I'm not complaining. I don't like hot weather ;)
-
Shortly after midnight and 0oC!
-
Go to bed Randi.
I am not saying how warm it is here considering the time of year. ::)
-
A few minutes ago, at 9:40 AM, the temperature at my house had
already reached the forecast high of 29 C for today. The
micro-climate around my house usually causes it to be a couple of
degrees higher than the forecast, but it looks like today will be
significantly hotter.
This will be my first trip down to the basement computer this year. It tends to be 10 to 20 F degrees cooler down there.
-
Snow!
Not much, but definitely snow flakes!
Didn't last long :(
-
Not sure what we got to today, about 24C I think. It was sun all day
and the most beautiful sky with very fine whisps of mare's tails. And a
nice gentle breeze. :)
-
You was up late Joan,
Chilly 11c this Mothers day here.
Time to give mum a cuddle to keep her warm. ::)
-
No hugging mom here, hot flashes! 27.1C, another record. ;D ;D ;D
-
At
the moment the forecast for the weekend here has a max of 20C on
Saturday and then max of 10C on Sunday. I know the weather in the West
of Britain can be changeable but really!
It
got up to about 24C in my garden yesterday but felt even hotter on my
bench out of the breeze, so I had to go and sit in the shade. Today
there is a nasty cold easterly wind, it was 11C at 6am this morning,
which is about the same at that time yesterday, but it looks like the
temperature's going to drop during the day.
-
Lovely sun still up North but the breeze is CHILLY. In the shade and
unsheltered from the wind it feels COLD, although I suspect that some
of the feeling is the body complaining about the abrupt change. It seems
to get warmer mid-week but we seem to be in for cloud if not rain.
-
I was watching cliffcam3 on Shetland and it was clearly sleeting up there. :o
-
Sunny and 11C here at 13:18
This month and last month have been colder than normal, but year to date it has been warmer than normal.
-
16C and sunny here. We had 8 mm of rain overnight, which both the garden and I appreciated.
-
You could bottle the weather at my place and save it for winter (1 June) its so nice.
9-21C
-
Today's high was 19C
-
Today's high was 22C
Low was 15C
-
I think we did high teens. Beautiful clouds. Hot in the sun when the breeze died. :D
-
High today of 27C! :o
-
10C more than we had! ::) But we generated 43 kwh of electricity. :)
-
21c and Only 7.3kWh so far today (1400hrs) :'(
-
First proper rain since lockdown. Not very heavy but wetting the
grass which was looking a bit dried up despite the wet Feb. The next
question is what to do about my permitted exercise. Do I give it a miss
for the day or grit my teeth and get damp. Looking ahead the next few
days are a bit mixed so I will probably do a shorter walk because the
daily hour is slowly reducing my weight. I wasn't obese before but my
BMI was over 25 (I'm not sure it would have been as high if I was still
my original adult height though!!).
-
Pittsburgh has rain to spare ;D
I am also doing slightly
better on the exercise front than before lockdown, although I am
probably doing more sitting in front of the computer.
-
We had 9 mm in the past 24 hours, with hardly anything forecast for
the next ten days. Ever since this started, our provincial health
officer has been encouraging people to get outside for walks, while
keeping a safe physical distance from other people. In our
neighbourhood, that's easy to do, so I try to break up my time sitting
here working on OW by going for about three walks per day, which I was
doing before this anyway.
The thing I like about this whole
business is that there is so much less traffic that I hear so many more
birds. The other traffic thing I don't like is that there is always
someone who decides that empty streets are made for speeding. Last night
someone in something that sounded like a Ferrari type car went up our
little street at what sounded like at least 100 kmh. You could hear the
snarl of his engine for about ten blocks in each direction. >:(
-
I sympathise Michael. A lot of people started to get around last
Sunday before the PM announced the changes. The AA (Automobile Assoc)
commented that it seemed to be the worst drivers that were out and about
and busy speeding. I'm sure that he didn't mean 100%, but it was
clearly a worrying number. >:(
-
Lovely today! High of 21C ;D
-
High of 18C today ;D ;D ;D
However, now it is going to warm up :P
-
We should have a similar temperature. May, for us, was warmer and wetter than normal.
The highest temperature occurred on May 10 with 27.8 degrees.
The lowest temperature occurred on May 07 with 3.7 degrees.
The average temperature for the month was 14.2, the normal is 12.9.
The total precipitation for the month was 35.3 mm, the normal amount is 27.5 mm.
There were 11 days with precipitation, the normal is 11.
The most precipitation occurred on May 16 with 8.6 mm.
The highest wind speed occurred on May 02 with 23 kmh.
The windiest day was May 06.
The amount of solar power generated was 1050.7 kwh.
The most solar power was 44.6 kwh generated on May 26.
The least solar power was 9.6 kwh generated on May 30.

We

garden as the primulas were looking rather wilty.

Although I can't find a mention in that article, they did say in a

Thunderstorm at the moment!
According to the weather site it is 32C and mostly sunny :-\
-
Way too hot for me... ::)
-
High here was a perfect sunny 23. Currently it's 22.
-
High was 30C
It is now 18C and partly cloudy.
In 10 minutes it is supposed to be 22C with thunderstorms. That doesn't seem too likely :-X
-
We got up to 19 in sunshine yesterday, with humidity in the low 60% range. Perfect. :) :) :)
-
Today's high was 34C. Sunday's high is supposed to be 19C
-
We've gone from low 20s to estimated 14 today. It will gradually
warm until the weekend when we should be back to high teens and low
twenties which, since rainfall seems low, qualifies as a nice scottish
summer.
-
;D
Very similar in NW England
-
And in NE England - grey and chilly and wet.
-
A wetter than average winter expected in Australia.
-
We had 10 mm of rain yesterday, and the sun is making a valiant
effort to break through the clouds today. It's 18 and quite pleasant.

We had a high of 32C today :P :P :P
Now we're having a storm and it is down to 26C
LOVELY!!!
Just before midnight it is 24C with a thunderstorm.
-
They have been forecasting thunderstorms a
few times in the last few days. I was curious about how often
thunderstorms occur here, having lived here, they don't come to mind all
that often. So, for 55 years of weather data for Victoria International
Airport this is how many days had thunder...

July
has 31 days, so with 55 months of July in the record, the odds of a
thunderstorm are just 1/55, slightly less than 2%. For June, it's just
over 1%.
-
So, a roughly 90% chance of not having any thunderstorms at all in a given year? :P :o
-
Those 1 and 2% values are the chances of a thunderstorm on a given day for a given month, not for a given month. ;)
There
were three years with no thunderstorms: 1964, 1974 and 2000. The two
years with the highest number were 1963 with 14, and 1978 with 7. The
average was 3.
So, the chance of a thunderstorm in a given year
is about 95%. The total number of days with thunder for the period 1955 -
2010 was 169. There are some places in the world that get more than
that in one year.
-
We had a thunderstorm down here in Kent a few days ago.
Watching on radar the storm was headed to the NE from here. So it
missed Victoria by quite a bit.
-

I
have to think twice about where you folks are. A thunderstorm starting
in Kent and going NE would leave you in the North Sea. It is very
confusing if you're thinking of England ;) ;D
I grew up in
Dagenham. Pretty much every time we had a thunderstorm the house in the
middle of Arnold Road on the north side had its chimney struck by
lightening. It's not far from the Broad Street shops, so folks used to
pop round to see the carnage. I don't think that the pointing in that
chimney every got to be more than twelve months old. :o I
just checked the street map and it looks like they pulled the house down
and built a walkway through the land. Not sure I'd walk it holding a
brolly in a thunderstorm though ::)
-
We're getting just a soft rain right now. It will green up the grass
in the boulevards. Grass in this part of the world is usually brown in
summer and always green in winter.

The
Kent where I live is near Seattle. It was named after the County
of Kent in England because it was a major hop producing area and this
Kent at the time hoped to become the hop producing capital of the world.
-
Just before midnight, it is 15C. The high was 22C.
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Tomorrow should be nice too, but then it is going to warm up.

sultry wet night with thunder and lightening - very good for the garden :D
-
Absolutely poured here for an hour or so, late afternoon.
Happy garden. :)

Same here, and was warned by a clap of thunder so got the washing in before it started :)
-
14 and overcast here in Victoria with 1.5 mm of rain this morning.
-
13 here in Darlington, grey and muggy. Not a very encouraging kind of day.
-
Lots of thundery showers yesterday (including a few really
loud/close claps of thunder :o) but quite pleasant at the moment -
18C hazy sunshine. Weather forecast looks OK although there are still
weather warnings for thunderstorms :-\
-
Very nice day here. Bit overcast about lunchtime but good for walk
this morning and pottered round the garden for the latter part of the
afternoon. There's a yellow thunder weather warning out for this
evening. But I've always said that in a well organised climate rain
should occur from 12 midnight to 6am with a few dry weeks for harvest
etc.
-
Last night they said it would start raining at 10am this morning.
This morning they said it would start raining at noon.
Now they say it will be raining at 4pm - i/e., in about 4 minutes.
Stand by for the cliff-hanger sequel.....
Out the front window it is blue sky with some clouds.
Out the back window it is cloudy.

It just started raining!
Now gray out the front and back windows ;)
Pouring rain!!!
It already stopped. Forecast shows rain till 11pm.
We did have another brief rain in the evening
-
Guess what?!
It's supposed to rain most of today.
It hasn't started yet, although it is cloudy.
-
It sounds like a good day to stay indoors and work on OW! :)
-
Sounds like a good idea ;D
-
Pouring rain at the moment...
Didn't last long ::)
-
The forecast high here today is 28. It's not even Noon yet and
it's already 29. The house hasn't started heating up yet, but
I'll probably have to head to the basement soon.
At least with the hotter weather, the grass will stop growing so fast and I won't have to mow as often.
-
Weather here back to normal. Showery all day, did manage a short dry
walk at lunchtime. Tomorrow should be hotter but looks pretty humid.
-
28C and cloudy here according to the forecast.
In 8 minutes it is supposed to be 22C with rain showers.
Looking out the window, it is partly cloudy...
-
It's going to be hot here tomorrow. Today was stunningly sunny. Two
teeny weeny itsy bitsy clouds put in a pointless attempt to give us a
break from the relentless UV. The reason for the heatwave was me
buying an oven. Haven't had a working one for about 2 years so,
naturally, I get one and it's salad time ::) ;D
Time to feed the hedgehogs :)
-
Traditional British summer weather: Wed/Thu - blazing sun, daytime
high 30C, nighttime 'low' 20C; Fri - occasional downpours, but hot sun
in between (high 26C); Today - more wet, more cool; Sun forecast - very
wet, daytime 'high' 14C.
This change might be my fault,
yesterday I finally got around to weeding under the rose arch so I can
sit in the shade somewhere other than next to the compost bin. At least
Joan will be able to play with her new oven. ;D

Conditions
here near Seattle are almost identical today. Currently (9:15 AM)
its 57 and forecast to be 61 at Noon. It's 100% overcast and
predicted to be so all day.
I went on a Volkssport walk near
Bremerton on Monday and saw the ships at the Puget Sound Navy Shipyard
from the highway. It was a sunny 77 then.
Temperatures in Fahrenheit to be consistent with the ship logs.

We had three years of above average rainfall, and this year starter
out above average. However, recently there hasn't been much rain.
Temperatures weren't too bad till this past week. It went up to 36C today (the forecast was 32 or 33).
The highs are supposed to be 32 or 33 till Friday, but the actual temperatures are almost always higher.
Saturday to Monday is supposed to rainy with highs of 27 or 28. I'll believe it when it happens ::)
Until the past week or two most lawns were a magnificent emerald green. Now most of them have straw-colored patches :'(
-
Well, they did a pretty good job!
Friday had a high of 34C and then in the evening, after some rain, a low of 21C ;D ;D ;D
Today is a bit humid, but very pleasant temperature-wise.
-
No measurable precipitation in the last 90 days, the low yesterday
morning was 92F, the high tomorrow will be 116F (a record for the day).
-
I'm glad it's not me that's living there.
-
Me too. It's overcast and a perfect 22 here, probably close to
the high for the day. Tomorrow forecast to be a high of 21 with a
chance of a little light rain; a perfect Northwest day for getting
outside and doing things. :)
-
I hear thunder... hopefully that will cool things down a bit.
-
This is the ten day forecast for our house...
Maximum temperature for the period: 26
Minimum temperature for the period: 12
Total precipitation for the period: 0.1
-
The two-day forecast for here is hot.
(with an adjective not suitable for forum use :-X)
-
High of 35C reported.
I don't think it got quite that hot here.
-
High of 35C reported.
Yuck!
Finally
got bc here today after r, d, o and then some more r. But a pleasant
high of 16C predicted. I had to put my waterproofs on to go and
water the tomatoes in the greenhouse a couple of times last week
::). The joys of the British summer, but I still think I prefer that to
35C.
-
Yesterday was the first time this summer that I had to water the
plants. This is a few weeks later than usual. There has been
just enough occasional rain without too much heat to keep the plants
happy.
-
My less than local weather report says
it is 32C and Partly Sunny
and
it will be 27C with Light Rain in about 10 minutes.
I hear thunder, and looking out my windows I would say it is mostly cloudy.
-
We're 22C and Sunny. As a rule, we don't do thunder. The ten day forecast predicts 0.1 mm of rain.
-
Rain, glorious Rain, there's nothing quite like it.
-
Yes!
We had some the day before yesterday, and it cooled things off beautifully!
-
We're 22.5. No rain in sight...
-
The rain we had yesterday (104mm, 09am Sun - 09am Mon) makes a change from last seasons bush fires.

Well, here I am mid-morning looking out at uniform grey skies with a
steady light rain which is likely to persist for most of the day. Temp
~16C. Should improve a bit until a glorious day on Friday and then back
to 'normal'. It's why Scotland stays green but can one of our met
whizkids please organise rain 12 midnight to 6am when required. ;)
-
I'd be happy to send you some hot, sunny days ;)
It's supposed to get up to 29C today :P
-
Here in the balmy south of the UK, we've had a much-needed day of rain.
Heading for a warm end to the week: sunny 29C.
-
We're in the middle of a hot stretch. At 9:20 AM it's already
28. The forecast high is 34, but it usually gets a few degrees
warmer at my house. So I'm expecting a high somewhere around
37. Just a few days ago the high was 20. The highest
recorded since installing the weather station at the house a few years
ago was 35.7. So today may be a new high for my personal weather
station.
-
We, too, but not that hot. Here's a weather summary for the past ten days:
