Welcome on board the USRC/USS Perry

This ship was officially known as Commodore Perry. Commodore seems to have been dropped in most references.

cloudy + misty. Sea smooth. Course N.W.1/2W.
No sail set.

4 to 8A.M:-
   Light N.W. breezes; cloudy+foggy. Sea smooth.
Course N.W.1/2W. Morning duties performed. No sail set.
                     Worth G. Ross, 1st. Lieut.

8A.M. to Merid :-
   Light breeze, N.W., to N.W.xW. Cloudy+foggy first part,
clearing at close Sea smooth. Lookout kept from the Crow's
nest. 9.40 saw one (1) seal. No sail set at close of watch.
                     R.M.Sturdevant, 3rd. Lieut.

Merid. to 4P.M:-
   Light West to W.N.W. breeze; overcast+cloudy. Sea
smooth. 1.08 sighted a vessel+steered S.W. for her. 1.20 ordered
increased speed in order to overtake vessel. 2.25 steered S.W.1/2S.
3.05 stopped+boarded Am. Sch. "Alton", San Francisco, Wester
master, Sealing - no skins on board. 3.20 ahead at usual speed,
Course N.N.W.3/4W. No sail set.
                     F. J. Haake, 2nd. Lieut.

4 to 8P.M:-
   Light W.S.W. to S.S.W. wind ; cloudy+passing fog.
Sea smooth. 4.10 set all fore+aft sail except fore try-
-sail. 4.20 sighted a schooner+stood N.W.1/4W. for her.
5.45 stopped+boarded Br. Sch. "Triumph", Victoria, McLean
master, Sealing - 163 Japan skins, +16 fresh skins on board.
6.30 ahead on course. Jib, staysails+reefed mainsail set
at end of watch.
                     Jas. H. Brown, 1st. Lieut.

8P.M. to Mid:-
   Light to gentle S.S.W. breeze; cloudy and
foggy. Sea smooth. 9.55 in all sail and changed
course to South. No sail set at end of watch.

  Light airs to light breeze N.E. and partly
clear. Performed usual
morning duties. At 4:00
liberty men returned except
A. Hockey, ch. and Frank
Terry, boy.
                    F. G. Dodge, 1st. Lieut.

9A.M. to 4P.M.
  Partly cloudy, light breeze N.E. to N.W.
Crew cleaning ship and painting about decks.
Enlisted Walla Goley as boy and rated him bugler
from date. At 2:30 finished painting top of ~
and varnishing skylights and companionways and
gave crew the rest of the days for overhauling
clothing. At 3:00 granted liberty to one division.

4P.M. to Mid.
  Partly cloudy. Light N.E.ly breeze, ending
calm.
