Michael has done Ice Hunting for this year, but at that time the science team only wanted 8am, noon, and 8pm locations.
The science team now wants the hourly distances and courses.
Since this year was not transcribed during OW3, the science team would also like to have all the weather.

On the weather page, please enter: date, locations, distances, courses, and all the weather data in the columns outlined in red in the spreadsheet.
(The weather data requested here is the same as it was during OW3.)
One weather transcription (Stream 1 in the Tracker and highlighted in orange) is sufficient.

On the events page please enter: date, location information and sailing information.
Other events are optional. Since Michael has already done the ice, mentions of ice are optional.

One person can do both weather and events, but the system allows one person to do the weather page (Stream 1) and a second person to do the events page (Ice hunting and/or Stream 3).

Every transcriber needs to enter the date.
The date is used to organize the pages.
(If one transcriber does events and weather and they are in the same image, the date is only entered once)

Do we still need weather details recorded for stays in home ports such as Sausalito?

Yes.

As in the past, please transcribe all weather records.

Gil Compo says every observation makes a difference everywhere and that this is especially true for the West Coast during the time period of these logs. There is very limited data, so our transcriptions will improve the reanalysis of the weather (storms, high winds, and precipitation) and how it changes over time. They may also help green energy. There is considerable interest in the probability distribution of winds for wind energy siting.

Even the months of data when they are in port are valuable. They can help to calibrate data from stations within up to 1000 km, and they provide greater certainty than a single station can give. Also, not all ports have stations.

1905 completed and uploaded.  The journey plotter should not be too difficult for this year.

When next?

Bear 1912 or Corwin 1881 (due to circumstances beyond her control, Vibia has been unable to work on it).

I would prefer Corwin 1881 first, if that's OK with you. When I get Bear 1899 done, I was hoping to do the few Corwin years available, so I can cross them off my list.

The voyage for 1905 has been done. You can see it here (https://drive.google.com/open?id=1r4klP9j4hQSykCORVFgB3XTcRdIDV_cI).

They had a North/South change in latitude of 49.98 degrees!
